TD Scholarships for Indigenous Peoples

  • Applications are now closed.

  • $10,000 towards tuition each year.¹ ²

    $5,000 towards living expenses each year.

    Employment opportunities at TD – summer employment between years of study and full-time upon graduation.

    ¹ For a maximum of four years.

    ² If tuition is less than $10,000 the balance can be applied towards living expenses.

  • Regardless of your field of study, scholarships are open to First Nations, Metis and Inuit who are members/ citizens of a First Nation, Metis or Inuit community who:

    have applied for a full-time minimum two-year program with an approved post-secondary institution for the next year of study; or

    are enrolled in, or accepted to, a full-time minimum two-year program with an approved post-secondary institution for the next year of study.

Indspire: Building Brighter Futures

  • February 1st, August 1st, and November 1st (every year)

  • Successful futures are created through hard work, creativity, and perseverance. Each one of us has a unique potential to achieve, and for First Nation, Inuit, and Métis students, Indspire is here to help make that happen. Indspire provides hundreds of scholarships, bursaries and awards to thousands of Indigenous students every year!

    -Proof of enrolment (registered in classes)

    -Letter from Indigenous organization regarding educational funding.

  • Responses must be submitted by January 6, 2023 at 11:59 pm PST.

  • One $5,000 award will be issued annually to one applicant. All applicants will have the opportunity to meet with mentors of the fund to discuss their education and career goals.

  • Any Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, or Métis persons from British Columbia with a desire to pursue a career in the Architecture and Engineering industry.

Jose Amaujaq Kusugak Scholarship

  • July 9, 2023.

  • Jose Amaujaq Kusugak dedicated his life to Nunavut and the advancement of Inuit rights. His passion and dedication to education and the promotion and preservation of Inuit language enabled Inuit to make many strides.

    Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) is ensuring Jose’s ability to inspire Inuit continues by awarding two annual $5,000 scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary academic studies in the fields of education, Inuit language, or the advancement of Inuit rights.

  • You are eligible to apply for financial assistance if you are:

    - Enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement

    - Will be enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary level pursuing

    studies in education, Inuit language or the advancement of Inuit rights.

Eaton-Indigenous Clean Energy Scholarship

  • October 31st, 2023

  • Value: $5,000 plus a paid internship with Eaton

    Indigenous students striving for a career doing electrical work, who enjoy travelling, are encouraged to apply.

    The scholarship is meant to be used for post-secondary education costs, towards apprenticeship, a trades certificate, a diploma, or an engineering degree focused in the electrical field.

    The internship will give the recipient valuable experience with electrical systems and renewable energy. We hope that the recipient explores career opportunities in the Canadian electrical industry.

  • Completed high school diploma. Valid Canadian driver's licence. Available and willing to take a four month paid internship at an Eaton location

Taking Flight Scholarship

  • October 15th, 2023

  • The CIM Foundation’s Taking Flight Scholarship was established to encourage Indigenous high school and post-secondary students wishing to pursue a career in mining.

    Three $2000 scholarships will be awarded annually to qualifying students across Canada.

  • Indigenous Peoples including First Nations, Métis and Inuit who are permanent residents in Canada.

    Priority will be given to:

    -High school students

    -Community college students

    -Trade school students

    Consideration will be given to students who are pursuing or wish to pursue studies in preparation for a trade or profession related to the mining industry (i.e heavy-duty equipment mechanic, millwright, electrician, process systems and control, instrumentation, carpenter, welder, surveyor, geologist, mine engineer/technologist).

Makivvik Scholarship Fund

  • The deadlines to submit your application for the Scholarship program is September 30 for the preceding winter semester and February 15 for the preceding fall semester.

  • Makivvik believes that Nunavik’s society and economy will benefit greatly from a skilled and educated population. Perseverance and high-level achievement should be rewarded. Makivvik encourages capable and motivated students to attain their educational goals at the post-secondary level.

    The Makivvik Scholarship Program was created to promote and encourage post-secondary education for Inuit Beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.

    Students who apply and meet all the criteria are automatically considered for the Makivvik Scholarship Fund. Please download the application form. It’s in Inuktitut, English, and French, and provides an easy step-by-step guide to apply for the Makivvik Scholarship Fund for Nunavik Beneficiaries.

  • To be eligible for these Scholarships, you must meet the following criteria:

    a) Be an Inuit Beneficiary of the JBNQA, and a Canadian citizen;

    b) Have been a resident of Nunavik for at least the 10 previous years, unless you have been working outside the territory for an Inuit organization, and remain associated with a Nunavik community;

    c) Be enrolled in a MEQ recognized program leading to accreditation at the post-secondary level in a university, Cegep or technical school; d) Be considered a full-time student in your chosen program and maintain this status throughout the semester (passing a minimum of 5 courses at the Cegep level and 4 courses at the university level);

    e) Have maintained an overall average of at least 65% in the previous semester of post-secondary studies undertaken in CEGEP or technical school; and 60% at the University level.

Leonard S. (Tony) Mandamin Award for Indigenous Students 2023

  • November 1st, 2024

  • The award is granted annually to Indigenous students studying in the energy industry related disciplines at a recognized university or community college. In addition to a cash award, recipients will be offered a paid work term with Hydro One.

  • All applicants must be:

    Legally eligible to work in Canada upon graduation and is an Ontario resident enrolled in full-time study in an accredited Ontario university or college.

    An Indigenous student who has completed a minimum of two years in an undergraduate program in one of the following areas: Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Computer, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, IT, Forestry or Business at the university or college level.

    Of good academic standing with a strong GPA (B+).

    Have proven leadership skills with involvement in extra-curricular activities within the community or campus.

    Have strong oral and written communication skills.

    A student returning to school on a full-time basis.

    Applicants must include a copy of their unofficial transcripts and updated resume along with their application.

    Applicants should also include proof of Indigenous ancestry.

Animikii Technology and Entrepreneurship Scholarships

  • October 31st (annual deadline)

  • This scholarship provides Indigenous youth in a post-secondary setting with a $500 scholarship for books, tuition, supplies, or any other cost-of-living expenses related to their time in school.

  • Our scholarships are available to Indigenous youth (Status and non-Status First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) ages 17-30 who are attending a post-secondary program with a focus on either technology or entrepreneurship.

    The school program does not have to be a Bachelor’s degree, Master's degree, or Ph.D., but we do ask for proof of enrolment. Additionally, as part of our application, we ask students to provide a professional, academic, or volunteer reference letter. This letter can be written by a teacher, school administrator, manager, supervisor, coach, mentor, volunteer coordinator, or Counsellor.

Nunavik Scholarship Fund

  • There is no firm deadline for this scholarship.

    Apply early. The scholarships are awarded on a first come first served basis.

  • Approved applicants will be allocated as follows:

    • Full-time university degree away from home: $2,800 per year

    • Full-time college/CEGEP program away from home: $2,000 per year

    • Full-time college/CEGEP/University program at home: $500 per year

    Funding will be provided through either monthly or semester contributions. Other types of payments may be considered.

  • Eligible participants are persons who are permanent residents* of Nunavik. Priority is given to beneficiaries.

    As understood by Revenue Canada and according to ETISCD’s mandate. Eligible participants must:

    • Hold a high-school diploma;

    • Be accepted by a recognized full-time post-secondary institution in a field of study leading to an accredited degree or certificate program of at least 2 years duration. Certain vocational and technical trade schools with a shorter duration may also be accepted;

    • Be considered a full-time student in the chosen program;

    • Maintain a full class load during the program;

    • Have maintained an overall average of 70% or better in the previous semester of academic studies;

    • Maintain an overall average of 70% or better for the duration of the scholarship; individualized considerations will be provided to university level students;
